McAlister’s Deli Achieves Gold Rating, Wins Sales Award
McAlister’s Deli in the HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University Park recently received a Gold rating after an excellence evaluation performed by Steritech.
McAlister’s Deli, which opened on campus in 2014, brought the fresh deli concept to Penn State. With its assortment of made-to-order deli sandwiches, salads, stuffed baked potatoes, and soups—as well as its famous sweet tea—it continues to be a student favorite. “Student feedback showed us they wanted fresh and made-to-order, and McAlister’s fits that bill,” says David Gingher, director of Retail Food Operations at Penn State University Park.
Sales figures also reflect the success of the McAlister’s on campus. The popular eatery recently received recognition for the highest percentage sales increase for a non-traditional location for 2016, coming in at a 12.1 percent increase.
McAlister’s sold more than 127,000 sandwiches in 2016, including the most popular Spicy Southwest Chicken Griller (about 12,700) and Chipotle Chicken Griller (about 12,300). “It has done unbelievably well, and the numbers show it,” Gingher says.
Manager Michael Girouard credits his team for the success of McAlister’s. “These recognitions are a reflection of our team. Everyone gives their all to provide the best service. It takes a team effort to be able to achieve what we’ve done.”
