Housing, Food Services & Residence Life: Behrend

Campus History

Nestled on 725 beautifully landscaped acres, the hilltop Behrend campus offers spectacular views of Lake Erie and the surrounding community. The original buildings, donated by the Behrend family, have been preserved to maintain the look of a family estate, while more modern architecture allows for state-of-the-art facilities and services. Each residence hall is named after a commander or ship involved in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.

Living Environment

Behrend provides a variety of housing options to meet the needs of a diverse student body. Traditional halls (Lawrence, Niagara, and Perry) house two first-year students per bedroom with common bathrooms on each floor. Senat Hall, which houses the Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs), features double-bedroom suites with a shared bathroom. Suite living is offered for upperclass students in Porcupine, Tiffany, and Tigress Halls where eight students share a suite with two shared bathrooms. Almy and Ohio Halls house four upperclass students per suite with a shared bathroom. Upperclass students are also eligible to request housing in the on-campus apartments. Each apartment houses four students in two double-occupancy bedrooms and has a full bathroom, a living room, and a full kitchen.

Dining on Campus

There are great places to eat on campus, all conveniently located near the residence areas. All food is prepared by our professional staff and is available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late evening snacks. Dobbins Dining, a full-scale all-you-care-to-eat food court offers grilled specialties, fresh pasta, soups, a wok station, hearty entrees, a large salad bar, and daily specials. Bruno’s Cafe, located in the Reed Union Building, offers a la carte meals, light snacks, pizza, grill items, and convenient grab 'n go items. The Clark Cafe, located in REDC, offers sandwiches, salads, and refreshing beverages.

Social and Recreational Opportunities

Behrend is proud to offer 10 NCAA Division III varsity sports programs, along with intramural programs, for team and individual sports. Bruno’s Night Club features live entertainment scheduled by the Student Programming Council. Campus life is enhanced by many clubs and organizations, including student government, residence hall council, fraternities, sororities, and Lion Ambassadors. Plus, the campus often hosts movies, dances, guest speakers, and other special events.
